Arsenal drop points in the title race after being held to a 1-1 draw at Brentford

League leaders Arsenal were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Brentford in the Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium on Thursday night.

The game’s first real chance came in the 22nd minute when Igor Thiago had a crack at goal with a header, but his effort was brilliantly saved by David Raya.

Just before the break, Thiago slipped Dango Ouattara through on goal, but Raya raced out to avert the danger, as only four shots were recorded in the first half, the second fewest in the Premier League this campaign.

Minutes after the restart, Leandro Trossard was sure to test Caoimhin Kelleher at the near post after cutting in to shoot, but his effort was blocked by Kristoffer Ajer.

In the 61st minute, Noni Madueke broke the deadlock after he got onto Piero Hincapie’s cross to the back post with a header to give the Gunners the lead.

At the other end, the Bees had two chances to draw level immediately. First, Keane Lewis-Potter’s header from a corner found the side-netting before Thiago drilled his effort straight at Raya.

However, in the 71st minute, Lewis-Potter restored parity to redeem himself for the earlier missed chance as Michael Kayode’s long throw was flicked on to his path by Sepp van den Berg, and the Englishman finished past Raya.

Deep into stoppage time, Thiago squandered a glorious opportunity to win it at the death after he was played through on goal with a long ball over the top, but he skied his effort.
