‘Everybody Should Just Pipe Down’ — NFL Legend Boomer Esiason Tells Olympic Athletes To Respect …

The winter Olympics are ongoing, and athletes from the United States – typically – are tipped to perform brightly across the events. However, this time, some sportsmen have a tugging concern – their political views about the US administration.

Global-scale events like the Olympics give five athletes a rare opportunity (outside their country) to vent their perspectives on national issues. However, sports legends like Boomer Esiason are putting out a note of caution to America’s contingent at the Games.

American skiers Hunter Hess and Chris Lillis have been in the bull’s eye over the weekend after stirring controversy with their politically inciting comments. Speaking about his performance, Hess “admitted” to having mixed emotions about his outing in national colors.

Hess hinted at ongoing events he doesn’t support – alongside many others. However, he attributed his motivation to his friends and family, previous American Olympic athletes, and the remaining issues that align with his moral values in his home country. Reports show the athlete has backtracked on some of his public stances after President Donald Trump called him a “real loser.”

On his part, Lillis says he cherishes the opportunity to represent the United States – and won’t trade the flag for another. However, he reports feeling “heartbroken” over the administration’s handling of immigration-related issues. Specifically, he highlights actions of the US Immigration ns Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minnesota.

Lillis added that athletes like him are often reluctant to speak about their political views. However, he maintains that the United States government should treat residents equally with respect and love. He also hopes that the athletes representing the country at the Olympics can paint a picture that showcases the country of their dreams.

Commenting on the developments, NFL Legend Boomer Esiason wants the athletes to “pipe down” on their comments and respect the country’s official image. In his words:

“Everybody should just pipe down and just do their sport and play for our country and respect the flag and respect everything that’s going on.”

Neither Hess nor Lillis has publicly responded to Esaison’s counsel. However, subsequent athletes may want to carefully weigh any public, politically inclined statements they’d make going forward at the ongoing winter Olympics.
