The Milwaukee Bucks are dealing with a tough assignment Thursday night on the road, as they are playing the reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
However, the Bucks are also playing without the guidance of head coach Doc Rivers on the sidelines. Before the game, Milwaukee announced that Rivers is away to attend a funeral.
“Doc Rivers is attending a funeral and will not be in Oklahoma City for tonight’s game. Darvin Ham will serve as head coach vs. the Thunder,” the team’s announcement on social media read.
Fans show support for Bucks’ Rivers
Meanwhile, fans showed their support and offered prayers in reaction to the news.
“Sorry for your loss Doc💚 Sending thoughts your way,” said a fan on X.
Another one said: “Rest in peace to whomever it may be in his family 🙏🏽”
From a commenter: “Sending my prayers to the family and friends of whoever was lost🩷”
“Rest in peace to both Doc’s family member and the Milwaukee Bucks.,” a social media user posted.
Via a different commenter: “Prayers to him and his family ♥️”
Said another: “Might not like doc as a coach but damn prayers up to whoever’s family is suffering that he’s attending today 🙏”
Milwaukee entered Thursday with considerable momentum, as it is coming off a 116-108 victory on the road against the Orlando Magic just a night before on Wednesday. The Bucks are 22-30 going into the meeting with Oklahoma City. It is their final game before the 2026 NBA All-Star break. Milwaukee returns to action on Feb. 20 to continue its road trip against the New Orleans Pelicans.
