Surprise Chelsea player in the shadows could get shock start vs Hull tonight

A player who many will know little about, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, could be in line for a shock start for Chelsea this evening.

I think it will be a stretch to see him start to be honest, but manager Liam Rosenior has been dropping some hints suggesting that we could see the backup goalkeeper get some game time.

EXCLUSIVE! The 25 players on Chelsea’s summer shortlist for transfer targets and scouting REVEALED!!

Chelsea’s usual number two stopper, Filip Jorgensen, is apparently injured right now. So that means number one keeper, Robert Sanchez, is currently playing every game. I know goalkeepers don’t need to rest as much as outfield players do because they run much more. But there is the element of a mental rest being needed too.

And maybe Chelsea’s FA Cup tie against Hull City tonight might be where Rosenior decides he can rest Sanchez, even if that would be a huge and risky call and certainly a shock one.

Sharman-Lowe, who was recalled early from a season long loan move with Bolton Wanderers, is ready to be called on.

In words cited on X, Rosenior said:

“Filip [Jorgensen] is not fully fit at the moment. He’s working really, really hard on his rehab. Teddy [Sharman-Lowe] has had a really important loan at this stage of his career. He’s been showing really good things in training as well, so I’ve got no worries if we have to call upon him.”

Jamie Carragher does not rate Chelsea’s summer signing of Liam Delap and believes the striker should have gone to a lesser club before he moved to a big club like Chelsea, making the switch from Ipswich Town.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are considering offering a contract to Bournemouth centre back Marcos Senesi if/when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
