LeBron James achieves what no 41-year-old ever did before in NBA history

At 41 years and 44 days old, LeBron James became the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, surpassing Karl Malone's previous record, after posting 28 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in the Lakers' win over the Mavericks.

LeBron James made NBA history on Thursday night, becoming the oldest player ever to record a triple-double. The milestone came in the Los Angeles Lakers' 124-104 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

James finished the game with 28 points and 12 assists, and he secured the record when he grabbed his 10th rebound with just over two minutes remaining.

Shortly after completing the feat, he checked out of the game to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

It marked the 123rd triple-double of his career – the fifth-highest total in NBA history.

At 41 years and 44 days old, James surpassed the previous record held by Karl Malone. Malone had set the mark at 40 years and 127 days while also playing for the Lakers.

This was LeBron's first triple-double since February 1, 2025, in New York.

Malone had owned the age record since November 28, 2003, when he posted 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists during the final season of his career.

LeBron will participate in his 22nd All-Star Game this weekend in Los Angeles.
