Arsenal legend on Gabriel booking vs Brentford
Arsenal legend Martin Keown has agreed with Brentford boss Keith Andrews analysis that Gabriel should have been sent off during their 1-1 draw in the Premier League. The manager claimed the Brazilian's foul in the second half was a bookable offence, but the referee opted against giving him the second yellow.
Speaking on TNT Sports after the match, Andrews was adamant that the foul on Dango Ouattara should have resulted in Gabriel getting booked. He was happy with his team's performance and said (via Metro):
"I think it was a definite yellow, it was a definite yellow. I just feel like the first few fouls always set the bar, there’s always that level. I felt in the first half we wasn’t getting the rub of it. Inside the box I was really happy with our movement and body language. A lot has been made of Arsenal’s set-pieces but we’re not so bad ourselves."
When asked again, if he believed that Gabriel should have been sent off, Andrews added that it was definitely a foul that should have resulted in the second yellow, but added that it was not going to make a huge difference as there were less than 10 minutes to play. He said:
"I thought it was a second yellow card. It was the 82nd minute wasn’t it so it would have made a little bit of a difference for sure. But it is what is it."
Keown was also on the panel while talking to Andrews and he said:
"Do you know what? I’m not even going to argue with that."
Arsenal drew 1-1 at Brentford on Thursday night, as Keane Lewis-Potter cancelled out Noni Madueke's opening goal of the match.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta looking to stay calm in Premier League title race
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that they need to stay calm in the Premier League title race. He believes that they cannot think about the other teams, and urged his players to focus on their games and said:
"That’s what we have to do. I mean, we’re going to be willing and preparing to win every single match, and the only thing we can do is focus on that. We need to raise the levels, collectively and individually, to be better than the opponent every week. That’s going to carry on like this until May. They’re the things we have to do, and that’s the most important thing."
