'A long time': Journalist explains whether Jeremy Jacquet's shoulder injury could delay Liverpool debut

Liverpool supporters’ excitement over the imminent arrival of Jeremy Jacquet was dampened last weekend as the Frenchman picked up a nasty-looking shoulder injury.

The Reds brought a summer move for Jacquet forward to January and were hoping to welcome him to Anfield on the first day of pre-season.

In the meantime, reports in France have suggested that Jacquet is set to undergo surgery as part of his recovery.

This has led to some concerns that the 20-year-old’s fitness issue could run into the new season, delaying the start of his Liverpool career.

Thankfully, journalist David Lynch has put those worries at ease, claiming that there is no reason to believe that Jacquet will not be fully fit by the time pre-season arrives.

Jeremy Jacquet will be ready for Liverpool

Even Arne Slot joked that a player only has to sign for Liverpool to pick up an injury, with a sense of frustration no doubt permeating the AXA Training Centre as news of Jacquet‘s issue came.

However, speaking to Anfield Index, Lynch said that there are no current fears over the centre-back joining while still carrying a knock.

“We’ve seen shoulder injuries, Mo Salah for example against Real Madrid in the Champions League [final], that’s on the more serious side of shoulder injuries. It’s only February now, it’s a long time until preseason, so I don’t really have any fears that he won’t be available for that,” he said.

“A shame for him as a young player to miss some football but I don’t think it will impact in a Liverpool sense, so he should be fit for then [pre-season].”

Jacquet looks unlikely to go to the World Cup with France, meaning he should get a full pre-season with the Reds.

The year is 2030, how much is Liverpool centre-back Jeremy Jacquet worth!? 💰

Pre-season will be littered with absences

Although Jacquet looks likely to be ready to go from day one of pre-season, he will not find many senior Liverpool players upon his arrival.

As was the case during his first summer with the club, Slot is set to be missing a number of key men for this year’s pre-season friendlies.

The World Cup will heavily impact on the Reds, with almost all of the first-team set to take part in the tournament.

There will be a handful of players present, but whether that will help or hinder Jacquet’s integration is up for debate.

All he needs to focus on is getting used to his surroundings and showing his best in training, once he’s settled in, the stars will follow.
