Tottenham interested in 27-year-old midfielder who was a flop at Chelsea

Tottenham are interested in signing a central midfielder who was a flop at Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur finally opted to sack Thomas Frank after their 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday night, and they are now searching for a manager who can come and turn their form around.

Spurs have dropped to 16th in the table, just two points above 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and five from the dreaded relegation zone. One of the options the North London club are exploring is bringing in an interim manager until the end of the season, before seeking a long-term solution in the summer.

Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi are seemingly in the frame for the job, while John Heitinga is an option on an interim basis to bring much-needed stability at the club. Regardless of the managerial situation, the club bosses haven’t stopped planning for the future in terms of reshaping the squad. They seem to be keen on adding a creative player to address the team’s chronic problems in creating and scoring goals this season.

Tottenham interested in Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

According to former Spurs scout Mick Brown, Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, Everton are set to block any advances over a potential summer move and want to keep the player for the foreseeable future.

“Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has done an outstanding job at Everton,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“He was a player I liked when I first saw him play, and I’m not surprised he’s been a success under David Moyes because he brings something new to that team.

“They’ve got a lot of solid and reliable players, but he’s got this ability to run and drive with the ball which not many others in that team have got. It takes the pressure off the rest of the team and gives them something else going forward.”

Spurs aren’t the only club interested in the Englishman’s services. Manchester City are also keeping tabs on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has been among Everton’s standout performers under David Moyes this season.

“So that’s why the interest is there, Tottenham have been looking at him, for example,” Brown added.

“They want that type of player and feel he would fit the profile if he was available, the problem is I don’t think he’s going to be available. Dewsbury-Hall is such an important player for Everton, especially if they’re going to lose Jack Grealish, and it would take a lot for them to let him go.

“I don’t think it’s something they’re going to consider because they’re not in a position where they might have to sell, it’s not like they’re in relegation trouble. They’ll be doing everything in their power to keep him at the club.”

Dewsbury-Hall would be a clever signing for Spurs

Dewsbury-Hall failed to make a mark at Chelsea after joining from Leicester City in 2024. He left the Blues to join Everton and has managed to revive his career. Under Moyes’ tutelage, the English midfielder has racked up five goals and four assists in 19 Premier League outings.

A hamstring injury sidelined him for a month, but the 27-year-old has come back stronger with a goal and an assist in last four league outings for the Toffees. Dewsbury-Hall is now linked with a big move away from Everton, although Moyes and the club will do everything within their powers to keep him.

Versatile, creative, energetic and tenacious, the former Leicester City star could be an astute signing for Tottenham in the summer. He could be viewed as a long-term replacement for the crocked James Maddison. However, until and unless Spurs bring in a new permanent head coach, any decision over transfers is unlikely to be taken now.
