Wilfried Zaha’s bold claim: This former Chelsea player had a better left foot than Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is frequently the measuring stick for players in world football, and Chelsea have had a number of individuals compared with the World Cup winner in the past.

Diego Costa recently said Eden Hazard could have reached Messi’s levels, however his career came to an underwhelming end after he left Stamford Bridge in 2019.

Chelsea fans are hoping that they have someone who can reach those heights in the form of Estevao Willian, who is being tipped to become one of the best players in the world in a few years.

Arjen Robben was at Chelsea between 2004-07, and even though it was before he hit his prime, his time in West London is remembered positively.

Charlotte FC attacker Wilfried Zaha was asked to build his perfect player for their TikTok page, and when selecting someone for the ‘left foot’ category, he selected Robben over Messi.

Current Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been compared to Robben, with the pair both frequently finding the net with a devastating left foot.

The England international has already comfortably overtaken his goal tally though, and after five goals in his last two games he has now moved to eighth in their top scorer rankings in Premier League history.

Robben an unsung hero at Chelsea

While his time at Bayern Munich and even Real Madrid is thought of higher, Robben had an underrated spell in West London.

Robben is very much an unsung hero of the title-winning side back in 2004-05, scoring nine goals in all competitions in that campaign.

He ended his Chelsea career with 19 goals in 106 games, and has gone down in the history books as one of the most devastating players in his position.

His trademark very quickly became cutting in from the right to curl home with his left foot, although this was a skill largely developed after his time at Chelsea came to an end.
