Fabrizio Romano shares what will happen with Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson this summer

Fabrizio Romano has delivered a definitive update on Nicolas Jackson’s future at Chelsea, revealing that there is expected to be movement in the summer transfer window.

Nicolas Jackson has spent the current campaign on loan at Bayern Munich after being deemed surplus under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.

However, his move to Germany wasn’t straightforward. Chelsea actually tried to cancel Jackson’s move at the last moment after finding out about an injury to Liam Delap.

He’s scored five goals in 21 appearances and hasn’t reached the 40-start threshold for Bayern Munich to make his move permanent, so he’ll return to Chelsea in the summer.

Jackson was also left out of Bayern Munich’s squad for the first time this season against RB Leipzig in the DFB Pokal, a sign that he’s far from wanted in Germany.

And Chelsea fans now have a clearer understanding of what will happen to Jackson following Fabrizio Romano’s update on his situation.

Nicolas Jackson could move to Italy or England this summer

Fabrizio Romano is of the belief that Nicolas Jackson won’t likely have a future at Chelsea beyond this summer after providing an update on his YouTube channel.

“The second name I want to give you today, and remember this date, for the 2026 transfer market, and we’ll see if also for the Italian league, because he has always been highly rated in Italy, is Nicolas Jackson.

“Nicolas Jackson, who is on loan from Chelsea at Bayern, hasn’t been getting much playing time. It was a very expensive loan deal completed in the final days of the 2025 summer window. It hasn’t gone particularly well; the spark never really ignited between Jackson and Bayern.

“In the summer, Jackson will return to Chelsea; he won’t stay at Bayern. So keep an eye on this, because he has always been well-regarded in Italy. He’s a player who has consistently been appreciated by Italian clubs.

“I believe he could once again become a name to watch for the Italian market, and also for the English market, because there are Premier League clubs already monitoring the situation.

“As mentioned, Jackson will not be a Bayern player next season, but I expect he could have different opportunities beyond what happens with Bayern, both in England and in Italy. So he’s definitely a name to keep an eye on in the coming months.”

Chelsea to get final decision on Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea shouldn’t exercise a permanent exit for Nicolas Jackson just yet, as Liam Delap’s future is up in the air after struggling at Stamford Bridge.

If he stays, his path back to the starting lineup could effectively be blocked by the pre-agreed arrival of Emmanuel Emegha from Strasbourg.

We have seen exactly what Jackson can do at Chelsea, as he became the fifth-fastest player in the club’s history to reach 20 Premier League goals, hitting the milestone faster than Didier Drogba.
