Ian Wright has suggested he was ‘gutted’ that Manchester United star Bryan Mbeumo did not end up at Arsenal during the summer window, when the Gunners had a chance to sign the former Brentford star.
ARSENAL were heavily linked with a move for Mbeumo in the summer transfer window and reportedly even made contact over a move for the striker, but in the end, Mikel Arteta made the decision to bring Viktor Gyokeres to the club.
Gyokeres was a striker that was banging in 30-plus goals a season before he made the step up to join Arsenal, but he has failed to hit the heights that many had hoped that he would achieve, while Arguably the best summer addition for Manchester United was Mbeumo, who has scored ten goals so far this season following a £65m move from Brentford.
And Ian Wright has admitted that he was gutted that Arsenal did not sign Mabeumo in the summer: ‘He always looks dangerous,’ Wright said of Mbeumo. ‘When you see how he plays, absolutely [he would have strengthened Arsenal].
‘It’s the same with Semenyo, you watch Semenyo and think, “I could see him at Arsenal”. I could see Mbeumo at Arsenal as well. Gutted.’
Should Arsenal Have Signed Bryan Mbeumo?
The choices were clear from ARSENAL, they could have signed Gyokeres, Or they could have signed Mbeumo, who is more Premier League proven and more dangerous with his pace.
The Gunners went for Gyokeres, and although he has not impressed as much as many Gunners fans would have liked this season, he has done a decent job in his first season at ARSENAL and will only get better.
Mbeumo suits the way he plays at Man United and Gyokeres suits how he is being played at Arsenal, so maybe both players made the right moves for their careers and they would have been worse of if Gyokeres was at United and Mbeumo was at Arsenal.
We will never really know will we?
