Arne Slot has had a lot on his plate this season from Liverpool’s results to criticism about his man management.
Arne Slot has described this as the toughest season of his career “by a mile”, and it’s not hard to see why when you list out what he’s been working through. From a poor title defence to public debate over his handling of Calvin Ramsay, there have been challenges on multiple fronts.
Defensive frailty and attacking inconsistency have been the recurring themes, with Liverpool conceding heavily while failing to turn possession into control or goals at anything like last year’s rate.
His handling of handling of Calvin Ramsay has also drawn criticism. With Liverpool facing a right‑back injury crisis, Ramsay appeared to be the obvious replacement ready to step in after battling through loans and injuries to put himself in contention. Instead, Slot made it clear in public that the Scot should not expect minutes, even as other players were shuffled into unfamiliar roles to plug gaps.
Some fans were aghast at how blunt Slot was with Ramsay. However, the Reds boss showed that he does have a warmer side to him.
Speaking in his pre-Brighton press conference, the Reds coach was not shy to pour the praise on Dominik Szoboszlai and his world-class performances this season – even admitting that he can’t stop talking about the Hungarian.
“Szoboszlai, I cannot stop talking about him, all the qualities that he has, close to ridiculous, off the ball, on the ball, can score a freekick, his work rate is at another level off the ball, not only the way he runs but the intensity he presses with that’s unbelievable.”
“I think we can all see how much technique, and how much game insight he has. If you are able to play right full-back, defensive midfield, holding midfield, offensive midfield, right-winger, then you must have so many qualities if you are able to play in all these postions.”
