As Liverpool step up their search for a new winger this summer, Federico Chiesa’s limited role under Arne Slot suggests the Italian’s Anfield career may be reaching an end.
Liverpool did not sign a first-team player in the winter transfer window apart from Jeremy Jacquet, who isn’t joining until the summer.
However, it has now emerged this week that the Reds are eyeing a new winger, with Yan Diomande among those being looked at.

David Lynch said: “The wing position is something Liverpool are eyeing now, I’d be surprised if next summer passes without a winger being added. So, he’s [Diomande] on that radar but it’s kind of up to him now to keep that level going to keep showing he’s ready to make that jump.”
Diomande is a natural right winger, and if he were to be signed, it would likely spell the end for Federico Chiesa.
Liverpool fans like Chiesa and have called for him to play more this season, but his game time under Slot has been limited.
Ahead of the FA Cup meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion, the Italian has played just 240 minutes of Premier League football across 19 appearances this term.

Juventus were linked with Chiesa in January as well, though the Reds did not sanction a deal.
A move for a new winger, potentially Diomande, will likely change their stance, however.

What Federico Chiesa said about his Liverpool future
Back in August 2025, Chiesa commented on his Liverpool future, giving a positive update.
He said: “I’m very happy at Liverpool! I will speak to the club but I want to stay here and fight to win many trophies.”
Of course, the 28-year-old has since been handed a bit-part role under Slot, and it would make little sense for him to stick around if another winger is signed in the summer.
Mohamed Salah’s potential exit could change that, but it remains to be seen what will happen with the Egyptian after 2025/26 comes to a close.
