Rodri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for comments he made about referees following the 2-2 draw with Tottenham. The Manchester City midfielder has been given until next week to provide a response and could face a ban for suggesting that multiple decisions had gone against the Blues that were not fair.
City were 2-0 up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the beginning of February when Dominic Solanke appeared to kick through Marc Guehi's leg in the penalty box, sending the ball off Guehi's leg and past Gianluigi Donnarumma to nestle in the back of the net. The goal was given despite a VAR check and Solanke then scored to complete the Spurs comeback and mean City dropped another two points in the Premier League.
Speaking after the game, a frustrated Rodri said: “I know we won too much and the people don’t want us to win but the referee has to be neutral and for me honestly, it’s not fair. It’s not fair because we work so hard in these situations and now to make these decisions, we have to move on.

“Of course you need to come back but at the end, when everything is finished, we are frustrated because it’s so clear the foul. He kicked the leg and of course with the push of the action on the ball, the ball goes in. We have to pay attention to these little things otherwise it’s going to be difficult for everyone because this league is like this – it’s about small details and everything counts, so I think today is a very tough day for us in this sense.”
The FA have now charged Rodri for those comments, with a statement reading: "It’s alleged that the midfielder acted in an improper manner during a post-match media interview by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or match officials, contrary to FA Rule 3.1. Rodri has until Wednesday 18 February to provide a response."
Rodri could face a ban for his comments, with an independent panel to rule on what - if any - punishment he should face after he has had time to give his response. City are at home to Newcastle on February 21 and away to Leeds on February 27 in the Premier League.
