Liverpool transfer target officially signs new deal with club

Liverpool’s £450m splurge in the summer of 2025 has not dampened expectations on the Kop, if anything the fanbase will be expecting reinforcements to address squad imbalances that have been exposed this season.

With questions still lingering over depth in defence and the long-term shape of the attack, many supporters will head into this summer expecting further smart, heavyweight investment rather than consolidation. After seeing the club prove it can operate at the very top end of the market.

However, one potential free agent signing has been ruled out. Bayern Munich have officially confirmed that Dayot Upamecano has penned a new long-term deal at the Allianz Arena until 30 June 2030 – putting an end to months of speculation.

The French defender had constantly been linked to the Reds throughout his contract saga, with his previous deal expiring at the end of the current season.

Dayot Upamecano said of the extension: “I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together. In life, it’s always about mentality. I give my all for my teammates, in every training session, want to keep a clean sheet in every game and want to win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”

Max Eberl, FC Bayern board member for sport added: “Dayot Upamecano is another central figure in our team who we’ve been able to extend with. A squad needs anchor points, and we’ve got the next with Dayot. The question often isn’t who you sign but who you develop. Dayot has matured into a top international player here at Bayern. We’re looking forward to continuing our journey together.”
