Tottenham decide against former Liverpool coach for interim manager job

Tottenham have reportedly settled on appointing an interim manager before acquiring a permanent solution in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly decided to stabilise their season with an interim appointment before moving for a permanent head coach in the summer.

Following the dismissal of Thomas Frank earlier this week, Spurs are said to have stepped up interviews with candidates willing to take the job only until the end of the campaign. It is being suggested that the hierarchy now view a short-term solution as the most realistic option, with a broader pool of elite coaches expected to become available once the season finishes and the international calendar, including the World Cup, is out of the way.

As a result, the club have decided to appoint former Juventus manager Igor Tudor as their new interim manager for the rest of the season as reported by the reliable David Ornstein:

“Tottenham Hotspur have verbally agreed a deal to appoint Igor Tudor as interim head coach until the end of the season,” the transfer journalist revealed.

“The club have moved for a temporary appointment following the dismissal of Thomas Frank on Wednesday with the former Croatia international identified as the chosen candidate.”

“The former Juventus, Marseille and Galatasaray head coach brings experience of working at big clubs and has a track record of making an immediate impact.”

It means that former Liverpool assistant manager John Heitinga was overlooked for the interim role, despite reports that the Spurs hierachy were considering it.

Heitinga only joined under Thomas Frank last month, and it remains to be seen if he will remain in the backroom staff under Tudor once he is officially appointed. The former Everton defender has been leading team training at Hotspur way since Frank was sacked from his role.
