The Dallas Cowboys are entering the 2026 NFL offseason with quite a few questions that need to be answered.

Obviously, the biggest question has to do with the future of star wide receiver George Pickens. After an impressive first season with the Cowboys, he’s set to hit free agency.

While Dallas could simply opt to place the franchise tag on him, a long-term deal would be preferable. Pickens played like a No. 1 wide receiver alongside of CeeDee Lamb. Plenty of teams around the NFL would love to have the opportunity to steal him away.

Keeping that in mind, the Cowboys have received a stern message from NFL legendary wide receiver Torry Holt about not letting Pickens get away.

Torry Holt Sends George Pickens Message to the Dallas Cowboys

During an appearance on the “Up & Adams Show” with Kay Adams, Holt made it clear that Dallas cannot afford to let Pickens get away during free agency this offseason.

Holt is 100 percent right. The Cowboys had an elite offense in 2025 and a lot of that production was due to the presence of Pickens. Losing him would be a huge step in the wrong direction.

Throughout the course of the 2025 season, Dallas saw Pickens play in all 17 regular season games. He caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers average out to 15.4 yards per reception.

At 24 years old, Pickens is just starting to reach his full potential. There is still plenty of room for him to continue growing and improving his game. The Cowboys should make sure that growth and improvement comes for them.

Whether or not Dallas will be able to re-sign Pickens in free agency remains to be seen. However, Jerry Jones and company need to do everything in their power to make sure that happens.

What Else Do the Cowboys Need to Accomplish This Offseason?

Jones and the Cowboys were nowhere close to being a Super Bowl contender in 2025. There are a lot of areas that could use improvement throughout the upcoming offseason.

Most notably, Dallas needs to improve on the defensive side of the football.

After trading superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last offseason, it was clear that the Cowboys need more pass rushing. They also need to improve the secondary.

Thankfully, Dallas has an extra first-round pick courtesy of the Parsons trade. Jones will also have a bit more financial flexibility this offseason to make moves.

Expect to see the Cowboys get aggressive throughout the NFL offseason. Jones is tired of missing the playoffs and there is only one goal in mind for the team this offseason, which is to get after winning a Super Bowl. In order to do that, Dallas will need to keep Pickens in town and add some defensive talent.
