Giannis-Shams beef history includes Woj, trade rumors and humor for Bucks star, ESPN insider

One of the most entertaining subplots of the NBA's All-Star Weekend Celebrity Game involves Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and ESPN insider Shams Charania.

Charania is playing in the game. Giannis is his coach. And the duo has some history.

It's a history that involves trade rumors, Woj and much more.

Giannis Antetokounmpo-Shams Charania beef history

Charania reports on news across the NBA, including when players may be on the trade block, and that's how this all started.

When Shams first reported that Antetokounmpo was "open to exploring" the idea of leaving Milwaukee for another team, Giannis had a funny response.

On June 11, 2025, Antetokounmpo tweeted, "Does anyone else miss Woj?!"

That was in reference to ESPN's former NBA insider, Adrian Wojnarowski (who likely would've had similar things to report about Giannis in the last year). Antetokounmpo eventually deleted that post on X, but everyone had already noticed.

The next day, Shams said, "I stand by my reporting on Giannis Antetokounmpo."

He added: "I really believe me and Giannis are all good."

More recently, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers joked that someone should think about "putting Shams on the trading block."

So is there a true beef here? Not really.

Charania does his job. Giannis does his. Sometimes the rumors overlap.

They might still find a way to make fun of the whole deal during the Celebrity Game. Antetokounmpo certainly has that jokester side to him.

And there might still be more to come, if Giannis does eventually get traded in the summer. Shams almost certainly will have the news first.

But for now, it's more likely some jabs back and forth, not a full-on beef.
