Emile Heskey has weighed in on where he thinks Liverpool must strengthen during the summer transfer window
Emile Heskey is a big fan of Dominik Szoboszlai and is hoping Liverpool will sign someone similar to the Hungarian star during the summer transfer window.
The Anfield icon has also outlined another area he feels his old side need to bolster at the end of this turbulent season.
Despite spending almost £450 million on new players last summer and setting a new club transfer record twice, the Reds are expected to be considering even more changes. Liverpool are also preparing for key players like Ibrahima Konate to leave, while Mohamed Salah exit rumours continue to accelerate.
Emile Heskey’s Liverpool transfer hopes
Heskey spoke with Liverpool World about the Reds’ current season and the kind of deals he hopes to see the club make in the summer.
“I would love another midfielder, someone who’s got just as much energy as Szoboszlai,” the former England international said.
“I also think a winger - we miss Luis Diaz. That’s no disrespect to anyone else but we do miss Diaz. He gives you that fight, that battle, that unconditional aggression.
“He’s on more than 30 goal contributions with Bayern. I know it’s a different league and they’re the best club in Germany, but what he was doing for Liverpool was fantastic and we do miss someone like that.”
Diaz left Liverpool in 2025 to join Bayern Munich in a £65.5 million move. The Colombian settled into his new role in explosive style - bagging a goal and two assists on his Bundesliga debut.
Diaz is now up to 19 goals and 14 assists in all competitions. His latest league appearance came in a 5-2 win over Hoffenheim and the winger was involved in all five of Bayern’s goals.

Earlier this campaign, Jamie Carragher named Szoboszlai as his player of the season. When we quizzed Heskey on this verdict, he agreed with the comments made by his former teammate.
“100 percent, especially if you’re playing in a position that’s not necessarily yours and you’re doing the best you possibly can which is better than anybody else in a position that’s not ideal for you,” Heskey said.
Szoboszlai has filled in as right-back for Liverpool on multiple occasions this season and has received high praise for his efforts. The Hungarian also has nine goals and seven assists in all competitions so far, which is more than Cody Gakpo and Salah.
“He runs, he’s got energy, he’s scoring goals, he’s tackling... he’s doing everything that everyone else should really be doing as well,” Heskey continued.
Szoboszlai is a crucial part of Liverpool’s current set-up and it has recently been reported that the club are willing to give him what he wants in order to tie him down to a new deal. His current contract expires in 2028.
