Though the focus of the Seahawks’ search for a new offensive coordinator may be on internal candidates, Seattle is also exploring outside options.
On Friday it was reported that the Seahawks will interview Connor Senger, the offensive pass game specialist for the Arizona Cardinals.
The 30-year-old Senger has been a full-time assistant with Arizona the past three seasons, first as offensive quality control coach in 2023, assistant quarterbacks coach in 2024 and pass game specialist this season.
Senger played two years of quarterback at Wisconsin before finishing his career at Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Senger also had a recent interview for the Bears’ offensive coordinator position.
The Seahawks are also reportedly four in-house candidates — quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, assistant offensive line coach/run game specialist Justin Outten, and tight ends coach Mack Brown.
The vacancy was created by the departure of offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who was hired as the Las Vegas Raiders’ coach.
Via the NFL’s Rooney Rule, teams are required to interview at least two external minority candidates for coordinator jobs. Interviews can be conducted either in person or virtually.
Seahawks add Ravens assistant Stern
It was also reported Friday that the Seahawks are adding longtime Baltimore Ravens assistant coach Daniel Stern to their staff. Stern worked in Baltimore alongside Macdonald for much of his time there.
According to ESPN, Stern is being added with the likely title of pass-game strategist. But it appears as if his exact title will become clearer once it is known who Seattle is hiring as its offensive coordinator.
Stern spent the last two years in Baltimore serving as the “director of football strategy/assistant quarterbacks coach.”
According to the team’s website his role included assisting in the quarterbacks room “with the playbook, call sheet, opponent analysis and self-scouting. He also is responsible for scripting situational periods of practice and advising head coach John Harbaugh on in-game clock/game management and coaches’ challenges.”
Also according to his bio: “Since 2019, Stern has been charged with studying game management, situational football and the NFL playing rules/officiating, advising Harbaugh and the team in these areas. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in cognitive science from Yale University (2016), where he spent three seasons as an undergraduate assistant to the football team – assisting with coaches’ video, opponent game breakdowns and football operations – as well as doing independent coursework in football strategy research.”
Report: DB coach Karl Scott to stay
Defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Karl Scott is staying with the Seahawks after having had an interview with the Arizona Cardinals about their vacant defensive coordinator position, according to a report from the NFL Network Friday.
Scott has been with the Seahawks since 2022 and was the lone position group assistant coach who was retained when Macdonald took over for Pete Carroll in 2024.
