Bar Owner’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Turns into Nightmare: Accusations of Racism, Review…

A Colorado bar owner’s attempt to please divided customers during Super Bowl LX (Super Bowl 60) halftime has backfired spectacularly, leading to accusations of racism, a flood of one-star reviews, and what she calls a “nightmare” for her business.

Danielle Jurinsky, the 41-year-old Republican former Aurora city council member and owner of JJ’s Place in Aurora, Colorado, faced intense fallout after deciding to air both the official Bad Bunny halftime performance and the alternative Turning Point USA (TPUSA) “All-American Halftime Show.”

The Super Bowl Halftime Show Split and Customer Demands

As reported by Total Pro Sports in their article, Jurinsky explained to the Daily Mail that patrons flooded in asking one question before even sitting down: “Which halftime show are you going to be showing?”

Many (she estimated around 80% in some accounts) wanted the patriotic, conservative-leaning TPUSA alternative featuring “all-American” acts amid backlash to Bad Bunny’s performance.

Others insisted on the official NFL/NBC broadcast featuring Bad Bunny’s historic, Spanish-language set at Levi’s Stadium.

To accommodate everyone, Jurinsky split the bar’s TVs “half and half.” She let Bad Bunny play on sound for a bit, then switched audio to the TPUSA show. “I just put the TVs on half and half,” she said. “I let Bad Bunny be on the sound for a little bit, and then I switched the sound to Turning Point.”

The Backlash Unfolds

The drama escalated online when local Mexican singer Monica the Great posted a critical Instagram video, claiming the bar “accommodated the white racist people” and adding, “F*** your racist a** bar tenders.” (She did note a “nice white lady with glasses” — Jurinsky — apologized profusely and refunded them.)

This led to:

Numerous one-star Yelp reviews from people who never visited the bar, triggered by the viral post.

Accusations of racism flying at Jurinsky, despite her efforts to be neutral.

Emotional distress for the mother-of-one, who supports her family on the bar’s income and called the situation a “nightmare.” She had to issue refunds, endure bad reviews, and defend herself publicly.

Jurinsky took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her side, where supporters countered with positive reviews, donations, and gift card buys to help offset the damage. She denied fabricating the story for sympathy, insisting:

“I’m not lying. This girl put this video up, and this is what happened.”

Broader Context: Super Bowl Halftime Polarization

The incident highlights the cultural divide amplified by Super Bowl LX:

Bad Bunny’s performance drew widespread praise for Latino representation but criticism from conservatives over lyrics, choreography, and perceived political undertones.

TPUSA’s rival “All-American” show positioned itself as a patriotic alternative, gaining traction among some fans (though viewership was reportedly far lower).

Similar stories emerged elsewhere — like bars in Florida or Nashville switching fully to TPUSA/Kid Rock content and facing customer confrontations or review bombs — but Jurinsky’s split-screen approach aimed for fairness yet still sparked outrage from a vocal minority.

Jurinsky emphasized that most patrons (about 75%) don’t know or care about her political views, and she’s simply trying to run a neutral sports bar. The episode underscores how politicized entertainment choices can turn a simple business decision into a flashpoint in today’s divided climate.
