The Seahawks will be retaining defensive pass game specialist and defensive backs coach Karl Scott
The Seattle Seahawks have only just begun celebrating their victory in Super Bowl LX over the New England Patriots. And yet, the grind never stops for head coach Mike Macdonald, as he’s had to immediately begin working on filling out his coaching staff for the upcoming 2026 campaign.
With Klint Kubiak leaving to accept the Las Vegas Raiders head coach gig, Macdonald has quickly begun searching for a new offensive coordinator to come in and replace him. However, there are other assistant roles on his staff that could open up if some of his coaches opt to bolt for another team. One coach Macdonald won’t have to worry about, though, is defensive pass game specialist and defensive backs coach Karl Scott.

One of the perks of making a Super Bowl run is that it makes it more difficult for teams across the league to steal your coaches, as they would have to wait longer in order to be able to officially hire them. The Seahawks knew for a while that Kubiak was going to become the Raiders’ head coach, but many of the other jobs across the league have already been filled.
There are still some openings, though, and one guy who was generating interest for them was Scott, who played a big role in helping Seattle’s defense become one of the most imposing units in the league. After previously spending the 2021 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings, Scott has spent the past four years with the Seahawks.
Even with Seattle advancing to the Super Bowl, Scott was drawing consideration from several teams for their defensive coordinator opening. However, he is opting to stick around with Macdonald for the time being, as reports emerged on Friday afternoon indicating that he will not be latching on with another team this offseason.
“Seahawks defensive pass game specialist and DBs coach Karl Scott, who has been in the mix for defensive coordinator jobs including Arizona’s, is planning to remain with Seattle, I’m told,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “Fresh off a Super Bowl win for Mike Macdonald’s dominant group, Scott now returns.”

Everything is going the Seahawks’ way right now. Hanging on to Scott, who could be in line for a promotion with his longtime team, is a massive win for Macdonald. Not only does he not have to worry about hiring a replacement, but Scott has earned his due praise for being one of the key architects of Seattle’s lockdown pass defense.
Scott likely won’t be sticking around with the Seahawks for much longer, but Macdonald will surely be grateful to have him for at least one more year. Given all the success he’s had during his time in town, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Scott’s role with the team increase in 2026, which could lead to even more consideration for defensive coordinator openings next offseason.
