Jets get bad news on their chance to convince Derek Carr to unretire

The New York Jets have a very clear need this offseason to address: the quarterback position. Justin Fields didn't work out, and their other options aren't much better.

Whether it's a trade, a free agent, and/or a draft pick, the Jets need to address the quarterback room this offseason. And one possible option emerged recently in the New Orleans Saints' QB Derek Carr.

But Carr is retired, and the Jets would need to not only trade for him but also convince Carr to come out of retirement to play for them. And during the Home Grown with David & Derek Carr podcast, Carr revealed his 2 requirements to unretire, which would eliminate the Jets as a possible landing spot.

Derek Carr gives Jets bad news amid 2 requirements to unretire

"Would I do it? Yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not," Carr said. "Would I do it? Absolutely, I would. I told you two things: I have to be healthy, and I'd want a chance to win a Super Bowl."

While the health of Carr might ultimately be the hold-up to his attempt to come out of retirement, if he's healthy, the Jets won't be an option.

He wants to play for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. That is not the Jets. They're multiple years away from being a playoff contender, let alone a Super Bowl contender.

While Carr might've been a good option for the Jets to get a good look at their young offensive skill players, he's not interested in the Jets.

Needing to play for A super Bowl contender eliminated the Jets, and many other QB-needy teams from acquiring Carr.

It's a picky stance from Carr, but it makes sense for the retired quarterback. Coming out of retirement to play for the Jets wouldn't make much sense.

More likely than not, whoever the veteran starter is for the Jets will get benched to get a look at a rookie to close out the year.

Carr won't be coming to the Jets, barring a drastic change in philosophy from Carr. The Jets will need to look elsewhere for a veteran quarterback, with Tua Tagovailoa, Kirk Cousins, and Kyler Murray being three strong options for the Jets.
