Liverpool turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend as they host Brighton at Anfield on Saturday. The Reds eased past Barnsley 4-1 in the previous round but have seen their season disrupted by injuries.

The defending champions have slipped to sixth in the Premier League, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal. Their Carabao Cup exit leaves the Champions League and FA Cup as their only realistic hopes of silverware.

They head into the tie on the back of a 1-0 win at Sunderland on Wednesday. Brighton arrive without a win in five matches since defeating Manchester United in the last round.

In transfer news, former Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling has joined Feyenoord on a deal until the end of the season after leaving Chelsea by mutual consent. The 31-year-old moves to the Eredivisie side, managed by Robin van Persie, who currently sit second in the table.

“As a free agent, I’ve had, for the first time in a long time, the opportunity to control the next step,” Sterling said. “In my career. I wanted to take my time to speak with clubs and their head coaches to better understand the role they envisioned for me and ensure that I can add real value in this next chapter.

“Having spoken in great detail with Robin, I’m confident that Feyenoord is a place I can be happy and establish myself as a valued member of the team. Playing abroad is a whole new challenge for me – and one I’m ready to embrace. Honestly, I’m just excited to get started.”

According to talkSPORT, Sterling is yet to start training with Feyenoord as he awaits a work permit. The 31-year-old, who has played for Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal, has not featured this season, and his lack of match fitness means it may be a while before fans see him in action for Robin van Persie’s side.
