Real Madrid are willing to tackle ‘Premier League financial muscle’ to make this deal happen

Liverpool are up against competition from Spain for the signature of right-back target Denzel Dumfries.

The Reds are desperate to add more defensive stability to their squad, especially given this season’s ongoing injury woes.

Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong are both out, and Joe Gomez’s recent absence has also forced Arne Slot to rely on Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo as makeshift right-backs.

Convincing Dumfries to come to Anfield will come with its challenges, though. Both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are also in the race for the Dutch international, who is under contract with Inter until 2028.

Real Madrid challenge Liverpool for Denzel Dumfries deal

According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have ‘expressed formal interest’ in signing Dumfries this summer. Diego Simeone is looking for a physical player to bolster his options on the right.

Real Madrid are also in the frame and are ‘ready to compete against the Premier League’s financial muscle’ to see a deal over the line.

This summer would be an opportune moment for any club to enter negotiations. Dumfries reportedly has a ‘special release clause’ in his current terms, which will allow clubs outside of Serie A to trigger a transfer fee close to €25 million (£22m).

Naturally, this deal is extremely attractive for any interested club. Inter’s previous asking price has been reported at closer to the €50 million (£44m) mark. This has alerted the clubs in Madrid, as the temptation to sign Dumfries for half price is hugely tempting.

Liverpool are expected to make big signings during the summer window, despite spending a record-breaking amount of cash last year. Their season has been turbulent and the Reds have struggled to find consistency in their Premier League title-defending campaign.
