A Lions Dad Gets Special Gift from Matthew Stafford After Selling QB’s Signed Jersey for…

Matthew Stafford just wrapped the best season of his 17-year career, earning NFL MVP honors after throwing for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns, and both numbers are the league’s highest.

The 38-year-old quarterback led the Rams to a 12-5 record and advanced to the NFC Championship before closely losing 31-27 to the Seattle Seahawks. However, it seems like his most meaningful moment this postseason didn’t happen on the field.

Stafford’s built a reputation for class acts off the gridiron, and he added another chapter after learning about a Lions fan who made an impossible choice. His connection to the Detroit Lions runs deep, as he spent 12 seasons with the franchise. So, he couldn’t hold himself for long when he heard about a fan named Bryson Machonga’s sacrifice.

Machonga, a 34-year-old Wisconsin native, faced a tough call when playoff tickets for Detroit’s divisional round matchup against Washington hit nearly $1,000 apiece. He wanted to create a lifetime memory for his 8-year-old daughter Kinsley, who is Lions superfan.

This is a year-old story shared via the Detroit Free Press, and someone forwarded it to Stafford. The Rams quarterback, who has four daughters of his own, understood the feeling behind the heartwarming sacrifice.

He reportedly texted a Rams equipment manager and asked him to track down the Lions fan’s father and send him a jersey. Machonga first thought the message was a scam.

But a package later arrived at his home with a game-worn Stafford jersey from the Lions’ 2014 season. The story resurfaced in 2025 and spread quickly on social media, with many praising the quarterback’s gesture.

One fanwrote, “Stafford is an easy guy to love. Last year he paid for buses so fans could attend the playoff game in AZ after it got moved because of the fires. Class act on & off the field.”

Anotheradded, “I knew he was a good guy. Love his sweet family…and that he took his girls to the NFL Honors. Those kids stole the show.”

The thirdshared, “That’s why Detroit still loves Stafford!”

A fourthnoted, “Stafford is a good guy.”

The fifth fanpenned, “Stafford is the man.”

A random X userremarked, “I’ve always liked Stafford and this just adds to the reasons why.”

There’s no question he has a strong reputation off the field. But at 38, his age has raised concerns, even after his MVP-level performance with the Rams. Sometimes, head coach Sean McVayshowed frustration when reporters asked whether Stafford would remain with the team or retire.
