Liam Rosenior releases statement on Liam Delap's chaotic Chelsea display vs Hull City

Liam Rosenior has addressed the scrutiny surrounding Liam Delap’s finishing at the MKM Stadium, issuing a firm response after a series of missed chances.

It’s been a tough start to life at Chelsea for Liam Delap. He’s scored just twice in all competitions and some of his performances have left little to be desired.

His display against Hull City on his return to his former club was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. In the first half, he looked lazy and squandered several chances. But he showed signs of improvement in the second 45, and even put the ball on a plate for Estevao Willian to score Chelsea’s third.

In fact, Delap recorded three assists vs Hull City.

Delap does look like a player who is lacking confidence. As we saw with his assist for Estevao, he does have that turn of pace and quality that allows him to create something out of nothing; it’s just about doing that on a consistent basis.

Even the Hull City fans were booing Alejandro Garnacho 🤣

Liam Rosenior was impressed by Liam Delap’s performance

Speaking in his press conference after the game, Liam Rosenior had this to say on Liam Delap (as per Football.London).

“Top. To be a No.9, in the system we play, it’s not always about yourself. He brings people into play and makes sacrificial runs.

“It’s nice in a way that you’re singling so many players out because it must mean it was a top team performance.”

The important thing is that Delap has been putting the work behind the scenes, often spotted staying behind after training for extra shooting practice.

It was a rather chaotic performance from Delap, but he showed some really promising signs in that second half.

And here’s what he had to say about his missed chance after the game.

“No, I swear I thought it went in. It was just stupid and I should have put it in. These things happen and I will learn from it for next time.”
