Rosenior praises new player who “understands” the way he wants to play who could feature more…

There was a lot to like in Chelsea’s performance against Hull today, and one thing we were most curious to see was Mamadou Sarr’s full debut.

He knows Liam Rosenior well from their shared time at Strasbourg, and it was no surprise to see the Chelsea boss pick the defender tonight after his recall in January.

Rosenior was super positive about the Senegal star’s performance and his progress so far.

“Mamadou was everything that I expect. I know Mamadou so well. I think the acclimatisation adaptation process for him hopefully will be faster because he understands the way I want to play, and he already showed that today,” Rosenior said.

However as always, the coach widened his praise out to the whole group:

“But I don’t want to single players out. I just felt the whole team, from Garnacho’s energy and running Liam Delap, Estevao, midfield players, the back unit, Rob Sanchez. I just felt it was a really, really strong team performance and that’s what makes me so happy this evening.”

There was a lot to like about Sarr’s performance, which was basically very quiet and tidy. Just what you want from a central defender on his debut. His most notable moment was a lovely pass to Estevao in the first half, who should have scored.

In other news…

Chelsea’s second and third were really nice – a goal direct from a corner from Pedro Neto (nobody is quite sure if it took a touch, but it’s been given to him), and a great run from Liam Delap to set up Estevao for the second.

One thing we ARE sure about is that Neto scored the first goal. He banged it in just before half time, as things were starting to get tense in the game.
