While the Seahawks’ vacant offensive coordinator spot is still the biggest coaching story, Seattle reportedly made another significant hire on Friday.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are hiring Zachary Orr, who was on Mike Macdonald’s staff with Baltimore and served as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator the past two seasons. Orr will serve as the Seahawks’ inside linebackers coach.
Orr played linebacker for the Ravens from 2014-16 during what were Macdonald’s first three years on the staff there and then worked in a variety of assistant coaching roles from 2017-25, including the last two seasons as defensive coordinator, a role he took over when Macdonald came to Seattle as the head coach of the Seahawks. It was reported that Macdonald wanted to bring him to Seattle as defensive coordinator when in 2024 before the Ravens promoted him as Macdonald’s replacement.

Orr reportedly also had a chance to become the new DC of the Cowboys but instead chose to reunite with Macdonald in Seattle where he could be in position to take over as DC down the road should current defensive coordinator Aden Durde move on down the road. Orr confirmed his departure from the Ravens in a post on social media.
“Baltimore it’s always love from my end,” the coach posted Friday on X. “Although the last couple years we did not achieve our goals that we set out to achieve, I will chose to cherish the brotherhood, fellow coaches, players making plays, division title, playoff win, etc!”
Seattle’s current inside linebackers coach is Kirk Olivadotti, and it was not immediately clear if he is moving on or simply changing roles with the Seahawks.
