Thunder’s Jared McCain Debuts Song on Stream With Shot at Philly

Jared McCain

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain continues to blur the lines between basketball and entertainment.

Not long before headlining a celebrity 3-point contest during NBA All-Star weekend in Los Angeles, McCain jumped on stream with popular content creator PlaqueBoyMax and recorded a track live. By the end of the session, the two played back the finished product, a song titled “Write Back,” giving viewers a real-time look at the creative process.

The newly acquired Thunder guard loves to show off his vocal chords on his TikTok page. Listen, the man can sing, but he had to rap these bars.

The moment that grabbed attention came midway through the song.

“We better not run into Philly, cause if we do sh-t gon get sticky. Can’t believe they gave me up, it’s cool I’m gon’ show them what’s up. I need me a supermax soon, cause J-Mac be getting these bucks.”

McCain’s Philly Line Comes After Trade

McCain’s lyric arrives less than a week after the Philadelphia 76ers traded him to Oklahoma City. During his post-deadline press conference, Sixers president Daryl Morey addressed the move directly.

“I am quite confident we were selling high,” Morey said, per Sports Illustrated. “Obviously, time will tell.”

The timing makes the reference hard to ignore. McCain already leaned into the spotlight after the deal, even posting a musical-style farewell to Philadelphia on social media. This time, instead of singing, he flowed over the beat with autotune and appeared to respond through bars.

McCain has appeared in four games with Oklahoma City, averaging 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assist. While the sample size remains small, he has provided energy off the bench and added another scoring option.

Whether the Philly line reflects competitive fire or simple wordplay, the message landed.

From Livestream Booth to All-Star Spotlight

The livestream session came just before McCain’s scheduled appearance at State Farm’s Crossover activation space. The Thunder guard will headline a celebrity 3-point contest that also features Richard Jefferson, PlaqueBoyMax, Caleb Williams, Druski and BMX rider Nigel Sylvester, MSN reports.

“It should be a fun time,” McCain told The Oklahoman. “I’ve met some of those guys, and they’re all super cool. It’ll be a fun time to get some shots up and have some fun with them.”

He also playfully assessed the competition.

“I’ve seen PlaqueBoyMax’s shot, and he’s probably last,” McCain said with a laugh. “But Druski might also be last. He might have a jumper, though. Caleb, I’ve never seen him hoop, but I feel like he’ll be able to hoop.”

McCain brings more than a jumper to the event. He commands millions of followers across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, making him a natural fit for a weekend built around creators and crossover appeal.

Now, McCain shared some bold lyrics on that track, but with the spurts of greatness he’s shown so far in his career, he can more than likely be the type to back it up. We’ll just have to wait and see if he and PlaqueBoyMax decide to officially release the song for fans to enjoy. This one may stay in the vault.
