Sergej Jakirovic and Liam Rosenior condemned discriminatory chanting by a minority of fans at the MKM Stadium on Friday night.

City were forced to take the unusual step of making announcements during the Tigers' 4-0 defeat to Liam Rosenior's Blues, warning fans about such behaviour.

Steve Jordan, City's stadium announcer, warned against it at half-time and again in the 60th minute when he confirmed some arrests had been made, after police reviewed CCTV inside the stadium.

On the eve of the FA Cup meeting, City had published a statement warning against anyone in the sold-out crowd engaging in discriminatory chanting.

“I didn’t hear that. This is not the place for this, in the stadium and also in public. This is not good, for sure," Jakirovic said. “The stadium is not a place for that, and this is the reason why they have been arrested.”

Former Tigers boss Liam Rosenior, who returned to the MKM Stadium for the first time since being sacked almost two years ago, like Jakirovic, said he hadn't heard the chanting, but reiterated his disdain.

“Without knowing what has happened, any discriminatory language is unacceptable," he added. “The fourth official mentioned something to me, but I was so focused on the game I honestly don’t know what happened.”

Chelsea Pride, the club’s official LGBTQ+ supporter group, also released a statement, which read: “Tonight, homophobic chanting was once again directed at our supporters. This is utterly unacceptable.

“We acknowledge that Hull City made stadium announcements, confirmed CCTV was being monitored, and that arrests have been made. Action matters. Accountability matters. Consequences matter. But let us be clear, the fact that this chant is still being heard in 2026 is a stain on our game.”
