Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Marcos Senesi, Bryan Mbeumo and Liam Delap that you guys could have missed…
Chelsea are one of the clubs in the picture to sign AFC Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi in the summer, as they seek to sign an alternative after missing out on top transfer target Jeremy Jacquet in the January window.
During the whole of the January transfer window, there was constant speculation in the media that CHELSEA were going to be signing Jacquet from Rennes, but the asking price was holding up any potential deal for the Frenchman.
The rumours were constant about whether or not he would join Chelsea, but then Premier League rivals Liverpool swooped in, opened talks with the player and his club, and agreed to bring him to England at the end of the summer for a massive fee of £60 million.
That means that Chelsea have been looking at alternatives for Jacquet, and now it has been claimed Tutto Juve that Chelsea are one of the clubs that are reportedly ready to offer Senesi a free move to Stamford Bridge.
Senesi won’t renew his contract with Bournemouth this season and is looking to make that step up in the game, knowing that Chelsea, Juventus and Barcelona are also reportedly interested in offering him a contract.
IcFootballnews Says…
At 28-years of age, Senesi is the kind of player that the Chelsea board do not like to buy, as he cannot agree one of those massive long-term contracts, but he is the right kind of player to sign.
Senesi is proven in the Premier League, mature enough to be a leader at the back for Chelsea and big enough to handle the best strikers in the game, and the fact he could be arriving on a free deal would make sense for the Blues.
At some point CHELSEA will make their official move, they will give the player a contract offer that he can turn down or sign up, but one thing is for sure, he would be a welcome addition to that Blues back line.
DELAP TOP RIGHT MOVE JOIN CHELSEA
Ex-England striker Emile Heskey believes Liam Delap needs to ‘improve his hold-up player’ to become a better player but is still backing him to ‘come good’ at Chelsea despite the strikers struggles since his move to Stamford Bridge last summer.
Delap, 23, has scored just one league goal for Chelsea since his £30m move from Ipswich Town last summer after the Blues managed to beat off a number of clubs interested in signing the powerhouse, who hit double figures in the Premier League last season despite playing for relegated Ipswich.
And after seeing Delap struggle this season with CHELSEA, Heskey has told Blues fans that he expects Delap to come good for the club: ‘Liam Delap needs to concentrate on improving his hold-up play,’ Heskey told aGamble. ‘It’s such an important asset because it affects how your teammates play with you.
‘They want a striker who they can be confident in firing the ball into, knowing it will stick. I think Delap needs to focus on that and spend more time on it.
‘It is difficult, though, because a lot of the time people only care about goals and assists, but I still believe overall play is very important for him.’
He added: ‘Despite this, I think he was right to move to Chelsea in the summer. He believes he’s good enough to play for a top club, so he was right to take the opportunity.
‘He understands the pressure that comes with playing for such a big club because he was in the Manchester City academy and that will help him.
‘He just needs to find his feet, and that may take until next season. I think he will come good.’
SHOULD DELAP LEAVE CHELSEA?
The lad has great potential right, he is young enough to prove that he can become a massive player for CHELSEA, he just needs to play under the right manager at the Blues, and we are not sure that Liam Rosenior is that man.
The Blues boss prefers the pace and movement of Pedro, just like Enzo Maresca did, meaning that Delap will have more time on the bench than he would like over the next few months, and then next season if another striker is signed.
He could come good at CHELSEA, but ill he get that chance? We dont believe he will as the Blues board wants instant success, which puts pressure on managers to play certain players as they will bring in results.
MBEUMO SHOULD BE AT CHELSEA
Gary Neville has opened up and claimed that Chelsea should have completed the signing of Manchester United striker Bryan Mbeumo in the summer window, rather than signing Joao Pedro.
CHELSEA sanctioned another stunning spending spree, bringing the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao Willian to Stamford Bridge, but at times this season, those players have been unable to shine like many had hoped for.
Arguably the best summer addition for Manchester United was Mbeumo, who has scored ten goals so far this season following a £65m move from Brentford, and Neville has been impressed with ‘good and solid signing’ Mbeumo.
Neville has also been impressed by Pedro but believes Mbeumo would have been a better signing for Chelsea and says United’s £65m star would have been ‘a sensation’ at Arsenal.
Assessing Manchester United’s deal for Mbeumo on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville said: ‘If you look at it now, Mbeumo would probably have been better for Chelsea and Arsenal than the players they got.
‘I think Joao Pedro had done quite well but Mbeumo… I mean, he would have been a sensation for Arsenal wouldn’t he?
‘He’s a good signing for Manchester United, a really solid signing. I like him a lot.’
Should Chelsea Have Signed Bryan Mbeumo?
The choices were clear from CHELSEA, they could have signed Pedro, who is younger and has alot of potential that Chelsea believed they could get the best out of. Or they could have signed Mbeumo, who is more Premier League proven and more dangerous with his pace.
The Blues went for Pedro, and although he has not impressed as much as many Blues fans would have liked this season, he has done a decent job in his first season at Chelsea and will only get better.
Mbeumo suits the way he plays at Man United and Pedro suits how he is being played at Chelsea, so maybe both players made the right moves for their careers and they would have been worse of if Pedro was at United and Mbeumo was at Chelsea.
We will never really know will we?
