Injury blow: Bruno Guimaraes
Bruno Guimaraes is facing up to two months out with the hamstring injury he suffered against Tottenham.
Guimaraes, who sat out recent games against Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, made his return to action in the 3-2 loss at home to Brentford before retaining his place in the starting line-up in Tuesday’s trip to north London.
However, the Brazilian was replaced in second half stoppage time, the one negative from Eddie Howe side’s 2-1 victory in the capital.
Speaking ahead of Newcastle’s FA Cup fourth round tie against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa on Saturday, Eddie Howe delivered an update on his captain.
"With Bruno, we are awaiting the full extent of his hamstring injury,” Howe revealed.
It has since been reported that the hamstring injury is serious enough to rule Guimaraes out for between six to eight weeks which represents a major blow for Newcastle.
If the two month timeline is accurate then Guimaraes will miss some key games for the Magpies, starting with the FA Cup tie at Villa Park as well as the Champions League knockout round play-off against Qarabag.

In total, the midfielder could be sidelined for 12 games - should Newcastle progress in Europe and in the domestic cup competition - including Premier League matches against Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Guimaraes has established himself as one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League, and this season has scored nine goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Remarkably, Newcastle have not won a Premier League game without Guimaraes in the starting lineup since he made his full debut nearly four years ago.
