36 Cap International Midfielder Has Already Said 'Yes' To Newcastle Move Despite Arsenal Claims

Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini has “already given his consent” to joining Newcastle United this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Calciomercato.it claim that the 36-cap Italian international would say ‘yes’ to the Magpies if they do formally propose a pre-contract agreement.

Pellegrini’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and all the signs point towards him leaving Roma.

The midfielder has been with the Giallorossi since signing from Sassuolo in the summer of 2017, and it looks like his association with the Serie A side could come to an end after nine years.

Other Premier League clubs have been linked with Pellegrini

The Italian newspaper La Repubblica (via Giallorossi.net) reported last month that Arsenal and Serie A champions Napoli were also interested in snapping him up.

Pellegrini’s availability on a free transfer means plenty of clubs will consider recruiting him for their squads. His experience and talent on the ball would make him a useful addition to any team.

Doubts hang over the futures of two Newcastle midfielders

It does appear that there will be a battle to keep hold of Sandro Tonali at the end of the season. His agent has publicly spoken out to suggest that a parting of ways this summer is a genuine possibility. Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have been mentioned as potential suitors.

While Tonali is the one who looks more likely to leave, there have been rumours about Joelinton moving to Saudi Arabia too.

Of course, there is no certainty that either player will depart, but sporting director Ross Wilson will need to put some contingency plans in place regardless. Pellegrini would be seen as an economical solution to add depth in midfield if that is required.
