NFL insider Greg Auman predicted head coach Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers to sign defensive tackle Calais Campbell in 2026 NFL free agency.
Calais Campbell could be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day. But this year, NFL insider Greg Auman sees Campbell with the Green Bay Packers.
In his 2026 NFL free agency predictions primer released on February 11, Auman predicted the Packers to sign Campbell this offseason.
“Campbell, 39, is ageless, now with four straight seasons of at least five sacks while playing for four different teams. He’s a living legend, with 119 career sacks and six Pro Bowls,” Auman wrote. “He made it to the Super Bowl as a rookie in 2008 with the Cardinals — 17 years ago — and how cool would it be if he signed on with a top contender and found his way back, turning 40 before the season starts in September?
“He signed for $5.5 million last year, and if a 40-year-old defensive lineman can make a case for a raise, Campbell can.”
Campbell will turn 40 years old before Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. But he can clearly still contribute to an NFL defense.
Back with the Arizona Cardinals in 2025, Campbell posted 6.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss and 16 quarterback hits. He also had two pass defenses while playing under 50% of the team’s defensive snaps.
Campbell wasn’t on the field for a majority of Arizona’s defensive snaps last season. But he was healthy for all 17 games. In fact, Campbell hasn’t missed a game since 2022.
