NFL insider Greg Auman projected Mike Macdonald and the Seattle Seahawks to bring back Dre'Mont Jones at edge rusher.
The elite Seattle Seahawks defense was on full display in the team’s Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots. Next season, the Seahawks defense could be just as good if they bring back a few key free agents.
Seattle could always add to its defense as well.
NFL insider Greg Auman projected that to happen in his 2026 NFL free agency preview on February 11. In the preview, Auman predicted the Seahawks to sign edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones.
Jones, 29, split last season between the Titans and Ravens and reset his career high with seven sacks. He’s been a consistent rotational disruptor bouncing through four teams in seven years, averaging just over five sacks a season,” Auman wrote. “With the coaching change, he could land with John Harbaugh and the Giants or could go back to Seattle with Mike Macdonald, and should get a bump from the $8.5 million salary he earned in 2025.”
Jones played for the Seahawks for two years from 2023-24. During his second campaign, he played for head coach Mike Macdonald.
In Macdonald’s defense, Jones posted four sacks, seven tackles for loss and 13 quarterback hits in 2024.
Ironically, Jones finished the 2025 campaign where Macdonald was previously a defensive coordinator. In nine games with the Baltimore Ravens to end 2025, Jones had 2.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits.
The Seahawks have other defenders to re-sign in 2026 NFL free agency. But Auman ranked Dre’Mont Jones one of the top 60 NFL free agents for the upcoming offseason.
