Liverpool constantly eyeing move for "brilliant" player in deal worth just £21.7m - report

Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries ahead of a possible move, as they look to solve their issues in that area of the pitch.

The Reds have big issues at right-back currently, with Arne Slot bemoaning the situation after Wataru Endo’s serious injury away to Sunderland:

“The load management is important because the last thing we could use right now is another injury. That is always the difficult balance for the manager, including his medical staff, what is the best decision to make every single time. It is also true that a player could get injured if he has to play three games in seven days. But it also happened many times that a player could play three games in seven days.

While Jeremie Frimpong will hopefully be back soon, and Joe Gomez is also an option, a new right-back may be looked at when the summer transfer window arrives.

According to a report from Spain, Liverpool continue to eye a move for Inter ace Dumfries, with the Dutchman potentially available for as little as £21.7m this summer.

Do Liverpool need to sign Dumfries this summer?

Dumfries is now a proven player at the top level, having won 69 caps for the Netherlands and scored 11 goals for his country in the process.

The 29-year-old possesses attacking quality from his position, whether that be as a right-back or a wing-back, with Micah Richards heaping praise on him during the 2022 World Cup:

“I just thought his whole game was brilliant. It was his timing of his runs… He didn’t sort of mix it up too much but when he did it was the right moments. Down this right-hand side he was just breathless.”

For all of Dumfries’ quality, though, Liverpool don’t need to rush to sign him, with the Inter man not getting any younger as he approaches his 30th birthday.

In Frimpong and Conor Bradley, the Reds have two strong and relatively young right-back options moving forward, and they need to be targeting centre-back and wide attacking areas as the key positions to strengthen in.
