Report: Chelsea now preparing approach to sign Barcelona star who has £869m release clause

Chelsea are now preparing an approach to sign an impressive Barcelona star, who could yet push to leave the Spanish giants this summer.

Rosenior pleased with "outstanding" Chelsea

Chelsea made sure that there was no room for any FA Cup magic against Hull City on Friday night, thrashing the Championship 4-0 and advancing to the next round in routine fashion.

A Pedro Neto hat-trick alongside Estevao Willian's effort ensured a comfortable evening for Liam Rosenior's side and the manager couldn't help but praise such a professional display.

The Chelsea boss told reporters at full-time: "The overall positive thing was the application of the team. Our pressing, our intensity, our work rate and Pedro exemplified that, to be honest.

"That’s why he scores the goals that he does. I’m very lucky to have such talented players. What I’m really realising quickly is they’re not good players, they’re outstanding professionals.

The Blues want to 'snatch' him out of Real's clutches.

"It was a really professional performance against a very good team, who are pushing for the Premier League.

"This is not an easy game, and some of our football was everything I want to see. But before that, the values of what the team stood for tonight made me a very happy coach."

It's now just two defeats in 11 games for Rosenior, who is continuing to prove doubters wrong with each passing week in West London. Up next, his side square off against Burnley in the Premier League where they'll be looking to produce another professional, comfortable victory.

Away from the pitch, meanwhile, it looks as though the Blues are set to back their new manager this summer. The likes of Kees Smit and Marcos Senesi are both on Chelsea's reported radar as they look to welcome a mix of youth and experience.

Those in West London are unlikely to shy away from spending big again, either, and that could even result in the arrival of a Barcelona defender.

Chelsea preparing approach to sign Jules Kounde

According to reports in Spain, as relayed by Sport Witness, Chelsea are now preparing an approach to sign Jules Kounde from Barcelona this summer.

Reports in Spain hinted that the defender could yet push to leave the Nou Camp if the Premier League comes calling in the coming months, and that should provide the Blues with all the incentive that they need.

Barcelona's Jules Kounde

Kounde is undoubtedly one of the best right-backs in the world and could kill two birds with one stone at Stamford Bridge thanks to his ability to also play as a centre-back.

The deal is unlikely to come cheap, however. Reports have claimed that the Frenchman has a release clause worth an eye-watering €1bn (£869m) and that is a price that Chelsea, or anyone for that matter, are likely to match anytime soon.

The Blues have come forward to sign a defender.

There will need to be plenty of time for negotiations as a result, but Kounde would certainly be worth the wait. Barcelona boss Hansi Flick went as far as to describe his defender as "unbelievable" last season and it's hard to argue with that statement.
