Brock Purdy Shares Shocking Story of Roommate Life Until $265M Contract Makes George Kittle a…

Brock Purdy has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league since being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy had a solid season with the 49ers going to the playoffs after a 12-5 record, though he suffered an injury which limited him to just 9 games.

They lost out in the Divisional Round against eventual Super Bowl winners the Seattle Seahawks. However, his journey was not easy at the start of his career and he had to overcome many hurdles.

Purdy was not a desired choice when he was drafted as a rookie. He was the Mr. Irrelevant for that year being the final pick of the draft, but did not stop and worked hard to become highly important to his team. He had to struggle in the first years of his career as a rookie.

Purdy had to share a house during his first two seasons with the 49ers. He lived with offensive lineman Nick Zakelj and even Alfredo Gutiérrez for a short while. Despite his $900,000 rookie salary at the time, it was still not enough to live in the expensive Bay Area and he had to split the rent with Zakelj.

The two of them became close friends over the years, and Zakelj was the groomsman when the quarterback got married in 2023. Purdy also said that he owned a simple Toyota Sequoia instead of a expensive vehicle, and generally used to live within simple means. Soon enough, as he rose through the ranks and became the main quarterback, he signed a massive five-year contract extension in May last year worth $265 million.

This allowed him to buy his own home in Nashville, Tennessee which was right next to another teammate and tight end George Kittle’s house. It allows him to escape the expensive California rent and live comfortably in his own permanent residence where he can also train in the offseason. He has worked hard to deserve the big money and prove the doubters wrong.

Brock Purdy’s humble beginnings

Purdy had a solid college career at Iowa State University but was still not considered an elite-level playmaker at the time. Despite his impressive numbers with 12,170 passing yards and 81 touchdowns, scouts believed he did not have appropriate arm strength, athleticism, stature, and performed badly in big games. This did not allow him to have a bigger draft stock, and was overlooked by multiple teams.

Only the 49ers decided to trust their luck on him, signing him as their third quarterback option. After 4 seasons where he has 11,685 passing yards and 84 touchdowns, the franchise can say they were right in trusting him. His story is largely similar to Tom Brady, who was also doubted as a rookie but became the greatest quarterback in NFL history with seven Super Bowl titles.

Brock Purdy is enjoying the offseason and will have to get ready for the next season as the 49ers aim to win big.
