Green Bay Packers DL coach DeMarcus Covington to interview for last vacant NFL DC job

The Green Bay Packers have seen a mass exodus of coaches from their 2025 staff, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, of course, was hired as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Predictably, he took multiple defensive coaches from Green Bay with him. Most notably, Sean Duggan, who coached Packers linebackers in 2025, is now Miami’s defensive coordinator.

Additionally, quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion was hired as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. He, too, took a couple Packers coaches with him.

And while Green Bay has done a great job of replacing the coaches they lost, they may not be done losing key members of Matt LaFleur‘s staff.

Earlier this off-season, it was reported that DeMarcus Covington, Green Bay’s defensive line coach, was a candidate for multiple open defensive coordinator jobs. However, he either did not land them or pulled his name out of consideration for them.

However, with the last head coaching vacancy being filled by the Las Vegas Raiders, he is now a candidate for their defensive coordinator opening:

Before being hired by Green Bay prior to the 2025 NFL season, Covington was the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots in 2024. He was not retained by them, though, when their former head coach, Jerod Mayo, was fired after just one season.

He had been with the Patriots organization since 2017, getting his start in coaching at the NFL level as an assistant under Bill Belichick.
