Norman Powell was honest when asked about signing a potential extension with the Miami Heat.
Miami Heat guard Norman Powell has been a steady presence for a Heat team that has had an up-and-down season.
The 11-year NBA veteran is having the best statistical season of his career, averaging 23 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game on 47.4% shooting. He’s the Heat’s leading scorer and was named a first-time All-Star.
Powell told Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald that he wants to remain with the Heat and hopes for an extension this offseason.
“This is definitely a place that I want to be,” Powell said of the Heat. “It’s been nothing but great. Coming here, getting adjusted. The organization has been amazing. I love where I’m at. I love the setup. I love the mentality. I love the approach.”
“Hopefully, there’s some good synergy from what they’ve seen that I bring to the table,” Powell said. “And hopefully a deal is able to be done sometime. But yeah, I see myself being here and being a part of the Heat organization for however long they’ll have me.”
Powell, 32, has been a dynamic scorer the Heat have been missing for the last couple of years. He has the four highest scoring totals for a Heat player in a game this season, with 38, 36, 34 and 33, respectively.
The Heat are also 4-7 when Powell doesn’t play. Needless to say, his impact is massive on this Heat team.

When Norman Powell was traded to the Miami Heat in the offseason, he was vocal about his goal of making the NBA All-Star Game.
Despite averaging 21.8 points per game last season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Powell was “snubbed” from the All-Star game. After increasing his production in almost every major statistical category, he couldn’t be excluded.
“I think it’s just one of the milestones that puts the stamp on all the work that I’ve put into this game, my career,” Powell told Anthony Chiang. “And then just how I’ve always viewed myself and saw myself in this league, being a player that is at that level of making our All-Star games, All-Star appearances. That’s what I’ve always wanted as a kid.”
Powell will also be a part of the 2026 NBA 3-Point Contest, marking his second consecutive season competing in the event.
So, What Decision Will the Miami Heat Make Regarding an Extension for Norman Powell?
If you’re the Miami Heat, it’s hard to pass up offering an extension to Norman Powell, considering his scoring prowess.
Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler was traded from the Heat after Pat Riley and the front office notoriously didn’t offer him an extension.
History shows the Heat could let Powell walk. The Heat have prioritized extending young players, such as guard Tyler Herro or forward Nikola Jovic, over older veterans.
Regardless of what happens, Heat fans have enjoyed watching Powell offer the kind of scoring ability fans have been wanting for multiple seasons.
