Liverpool fans question Arne Slot for starting XI decision
Liverpool fans are questioning Arne Slot's decision to start Cody Gakpo in their FA Cup clash against Brighton & Hove Albion. Many believe that a youngster like Rio Ngumoha should have been given the chance to start in the game.
Alisson keeps his place in goal, while Dominik Szoboszlai returns as right-back after his suspension. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate start as the center-backs, with Milos Kerkez as the left-back.
Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister are in the midfield, with Florian Wirtz in the attacking role. Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa are on the wings, with Cody Gakpo leading the attack.
Several Liverpool fans have the same thing to say about the line-up and posted:
A strong lineup was expected as Slot confirmed that the FA Cup was a priority for him this season. He said in his pre-match press conference:
"Where is this as a priority? We have three clear priorities: the FA Cup, Champions League qualification, and the Champions League. We are also aware of the limited options so the load management is important. The last thing we need is another injury, so that is always the tough thing for a manager, to make the best decision every single time.
"It is also true that it wouldn't be the first time a player gets injured if they have to play three games in seven days. It also happened many times that players could play three games in seven days, so that is the challenge we are having. The most important thing is that we train today, we listen to the players, see how they feel, and make the best possible decision."
Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson are the only senior defenders on the bench today for the Reds.
Arne Slot open to giving chances to Liverpool youngsters
Arne Slot admitted that was looking to give the youngster more chances this season at Liverpool, but has not named any of them in the starting XI. He said:
"I am always looking at the younger players. A few of them come closer and closer to first-team football. A few already had it, like Rio and Trey, and games like this could be an option as well, but it is about finding the right balance. We play a very strong team with Brighton and getting the right balance with who to play is something to think about."
Trey Nyoni, Rio Ngumoha and Calvin Ramsay are on the bench.
