Tottenham among clubs closely monitoring Real Madrid star often dubbed the ‘next Mesut Ozil’

Tottenham are hoping to bring in midfield reinforcements in the summer as the club looks to turn its fortunes around.

Igor Tudor has joined Tottenham Hotspur in an interim role, with the team struggling in the bottom half of the table.

Spurs are currently 16th in the Premier League table, and face a realistic threat of relegation. Performances and results have been underwhelming all season, forcing the board to sack Thomas Frank earlier this week. Tudor has arrived as Frank’s replacement with the hope of steadying the ship and maintaining the club’s top-flight status.

It is crucial for the North London club to finish the season strongly if they are to attract top players in the summer. They have several glaring issues to address in the squad as soon as the 2025/26 campaign concludes. The lack of creativity and dynamism in midfield has to be sorted out, and it looks like the Hotspur Way chiefs are making plans behind the scenes.

Tottenham among several clubs closely monitoring Arda Guler’s situation at Real Madrid

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arda Guler is considering his Real Madrid future amid some uncertainties surrounding the club’s managerial situation. Often dubbed the ‘next Mesut Ozil’, Guler is understood to be unhappy with his current situation at Santiago Bernabeu, putting Tottenham and several clubs on red alert.

Serie A duo AC Milan and Juventus have already set their sights on Arda Guler. RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are also emerging as ideal destinations for a player not getting the continuity he wants at Real Madrid under interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa. The Turkish international has had chances to showcase his talent in the injury absence of Jude Bellingham, but he’s been left frustrated with constant substitutions and a lack of confidence shown by Arbeloa.

The report adds that Guler thinks his development has stalled at Real Madrid this season. The 20-year-old has formally requested Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, to reveal the name of the next manager before deciding whether he wants to stay at the club or seek greener pastures.

Tottenham are one of the clubs keeping close tabs on the creative midfielder’s situation at Madrid. The prospect of landing the talented Turk, given his technical ability, spatial awareness, vision and versatility, makes him a strong acquisition. However, it is unlikely that Los Blancos will sanction Guler’s exit in the summer.

Madrid fended off interest from several top clubs to land Guler from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023. So, it is unlikely they will consider offers for the prodigious talent from Altindag, given that Perez believes that Guler is the future of the La Liga club. For now, Spurs can only keep tabs on the attacking midfielder’s performances and hope for an opening to sign him in the summer.
