Dominik Szoboszlai has dismissed claims of a “Steven Gerrard season” after another goal in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brighton – as he writes his own story.
Szoboszlai made it 10 goals for the season with an excellent strike in Saturday’s FA Cup victory at Anfield, cementing himself as Liverpool’s second-top goalscorer.
It has been a campaign of heroics from a midfielder wearing the No. 8, which has understandably drawn comparisons with Gerrard.
That was the case during TNT Sports’ broadcast of the game, but asked in his post-match interview about playing a ‘Gerrard season’, Szoboszlai rejected the tag.
"He's one of the best players in the world right now!"

“Actually I’m not playing a Steven Gerrard season,” he insisted.
“Although he was a legend for the club, I try to do my own story. I try to do my best every game and hopefully we can go until the end.”
Whether he likes it or not there are clear similarities with Gerrard, not least his all-action style, while his ability to shine while playing in any position – including as a right-back – is particularly impressive.
Stood alongside him on the Anfield pitch at post-match, Mohamed Salah lauded Szoboszlai as “one of the best players in the world right now.”

“I think it’s going to depend on his performances!” Salah said when asked if Liverpool can go all the way in the FA Cup.
“We rely on him so much this season, he’s one of the best players in the world right now and I hope he can carry on like this.
“But again, it’s great to win trophies, it’s good for everyone and hopefully we can do it again.”
Arne Slot was asked about Salah’s ‘best in the world’ claim during his post-match press conference and responded: “I think there are a lot of very-good-to-elite football players in the world, but I definitely agree with Mo that Dominik is one of them.”
“Dominik is a great example of the model we are using at this club,” he later added.
“We sign young players from another league, in this situation that was Leipzig.
“He was already known for being a player who was really physical, but I think it’s fair to say the player we brought in was already good, but where he is now is much better.
“That is what you get if you sign young players and you give them a bit of time and you let them play a lot.
“That’s why I also think that trajectory he’s been through is the same we can expect from other young players we have signed from other leagues.”
