Former Bucks teammate Damian Lillard shares moment with Giannis after 3-point contest: “Only…

Saturday night, former Bucks star Damian Lillard took home his third 3-point contest crown, matching Larry Bird and Craig Hodges for the most all-time. Afterward, he shared the trophy with Giannis Antetokounmpo, with whom he remains close. Lillard even allowed his former teammate to hoist the hardware in a pretend act of victory. Call it practice for next year.

Not so fast, according to Lillard. “It’s the only time he’s ever gonna see it.”

“Hey, how do you do it, like this?” Giannis guessed, striking an awkward pose, trophy above his head, next to Lillard in his Trail Blazers jersey. “I’m gonna tell my grandkids I won this.”

Antetokounmpo then confirmed with Lillard that he had tied Bird and Hodges as the only players to ever win the event three times. “So you gotta do one more.”

The newest three-time winner is ready to re-instate Dame Time again next year. “I’m gonna do it again. Got to.”

Lillard won his third by racking up 29 points in the final round to knock off the Suns’ Devin Booker and Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel. He also had to get past another ex-teammate, Bobby Portis, in the first round. Portis took it easy on Lillard by scoring only 15 points.

A 3-point contest trophy is one piece of hardware Giannis won’t be adding to his collection, which features awards for Rookie of the Year, two MVPs, a Finals MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year. This season, though, he has been an efficient shooter in his own right. Keeping his volume low and picking his spots (the wide open ones), Giannis is shooting a career-best 39.5% from distance, going 15-for-38 overall.
