Liverpool injury update on Wataru Endo after the midfielder was stretchered off in a 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Arne Slot is hopeful that Wataru Endo will be back from injury before the end of Liverpool’s season.

The midfielder is set for a prolonged period on the treatment table with a foot injury. Endo suffered his problem during the 1-0 victory over Sunderland earlier this week. He fell awkwardly when making a clearance at the back post and had to leave the Stadium of Light pitch on a stretcher.

With the World Cup taking place in the summer, Endo will be desperate to represent Japan. In addition, the former Stuttgart man’s absence leaves Slot short of another first-team player, with Jeremie Frimpong (groin), Alexander Isak (broken leg), Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni (both knee) currently sidelined.

Liverpool are still awaiting a full diagnosis on Endo’s problem - but Slot is optimistic that he can be back within the 2025-26 campaign ending in May.

The Reds head coach said after the 3-0 FA Cup fourth-round win over Brighton: “There is definitely a chance, but he will be out for a while. We cannot say exactly how long yet. That is sometimes different with every injury.

“Sometimes you can make that diagnosis straight away, sometimes you need a few more days to see how things develop and that last thing is with Wata. He will not be in the squad next week and he will not be in the squad the next month, but we're hoping towards the end of the season he has a chance to be there with us again. That also depends on the upcoming days where that will lead to.”
