Following an underwhelming title defence, Liverpool are already planning for next season. With the FA Cup taking centre stage this weekend, the Reds currently sit in a disappointing sixth place in the table ahead of their return to Premier League action against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest next weekend.
That is despite their £450m expenditure last summer. Consequently, head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes are under pressure to avoid the mistakes.
Hopes of this campaign being anything other than a failure now rest on finishing in the top four or five and winning silverware. Here's the latest news from Anfield...
Reds 'at front' of Gordon queue
Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Anthony Gordon if Newcastle decide to sell the former Everton star this summer.

Gordon, who could command a price tag close to £100million, is also on the radar of both Arsenal and Manchester City. However, according to CaughtOffside, his ties to Merseyside make the Reds his preferred choice.
Given the tensions between the club following the Alexander Isak transfer saga, it has been suggested that the Magpies might adopt a tough stance once again.
In the summer of 2024, Liverpool had agreed a deal to sign Gordon as Newcastle looked to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability issues. However, after the north-east club managed to offload Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, they no longer needed to part ways with Gordon and subsequently backed out of the deal.

Reds target turns down offer
Should Liverpool choose to invest heavily in Gordon, they could offset costs in other areas by exploring the free agent market.
This market is set to feature Turkish defender Zeki Celik, who has reportedly turned down a lucrative contract proposal from Roma, according to Tuttosport.

This decision has opened up the possibility of a free transfer exit in the summer, where he could choose from several interested clubs, including Liverpool, AC Milan and Juventus, all of whom have been linked with the 28-year-old right-back. During his stint at previous club Lille, Celik was also linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham.
