Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has named Dominic Szoboszlai as the best player in the world. He believes their chances of winning silverware this season depend on the Hungarians' form.
Speaking to the media after the FA Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion, Salah said that it was an important win for Liverpool, and the 3-0 scoreline gives them confidence. He hailed the performance of Szoboszlai and said (via TFF):
“It’s a very important win for us. It gives us confidence for the upcoming games. I think a cup run depends on his [Szoboszlai’s] performances. We rely on him so much. This season he is one of the best players in the world. It is great to win trophies. Hopefully we can go on.”
Talking about his game, Salah downplayed the comparisons with Steven Gerrard, adding that he wanted to write his own story.
“I just want to keep going and score as many as I can. I’m not playing a Steven Gerrard season. Although he was a legend at the club, I’m trying to write my own story. I try to do my best every game. Hopefully we can go on until the end.”
The Reds defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 with goals from Curtis Jones, Szoboszlai, and Salah at Anfield on Saturday, February 14.
Liverpool manager hails Dominik Szoboszlai
Liverpool manager Arne Slot agreed with Mohamed Salah, calling Dominik Szoboszlai the best player in the world, after the win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup. He added that it was great to see the midfielder step up and deliver with goals and said (via club website):
"When I said that [a Liverpool midfielder needing to score goals] I maybe had to add that you need to be able to run a lot if you play in the midfield of Liverpool. But I think what I meant was as a No.10 you also need to produce goals. Now he hasn't always played in the No.10 position but he is producing more and more goals."
"I think Dominik is a great example of the model we are using here at this club. We sign young players from another league – in this situation that was Leipzig, where he was already known for being a player that was really physical."
The Reds face Nottingham Forest next in the Premier League, before taking on West Ham United before the end of the month.
