Mac McClung stole the spotlight at the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest without even stepping on the floor. The three-time Slam Dunk Contest champion decided to skip this year's event, passing up a chance to become the first player ever to win four straight titles.
He had announced last month that he was sitting out. Even so, fans didn't have to miss out entirely. Shortly after the contest, McClung revealed the insane dunks he had prepared for All-Star Saturday night, instantly sparking excitement and questions about what could have been if he had competed.
Miami Heat forward Keshad Johnson ended up winning the contest, completing four dunks that ranged from solid to impressive. Johnson, who is averaging just 7.6 minutes per game this season, was joined by San Antonio Spurs forward Cater Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, and Orlando Magic rookie Jase Richardson.
The contest, like many in recent years, lacked big-name stars. With no All-Stars from the past five years participating, the event once again relied on lesser-known players trying to make an impact above the rim.
Beyond his highlight-reel slams, McClung continues to chase a consistent NBA role. This season in the G League, the 27-year-old averages 23.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game.
