Liverpool are leading the charge to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle this summer

An old transfer flame has re-emerged for Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window as Anthony Gordon is back on their radar.

The Reds were previously linked with the winger in 2024 and he was under the impression at the time that a deal would materialise. Of course, no such transfer came to fruition and Liverpool have since spent a British record amount of cash on Alexander Isak.

However, the links have resurfaced and it has been reported that Newcastle United could struggle to keep hold of players like Gordon beyond this season.

Liverpool frontrunners to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle

That’s according to The Daily Briefing, who have reported that Liverpool are looking like the ‘early frontrunners’ to sign Gordon this summer. Arsenal and Manchester City have also been mentioned but the ‘clear signal’ is that Arne Slot’s side are ‘leading the race’ for the England international.

The report claims the Magpies may find it hard to keep the likes of Gordon and Sandro Tonali on their books this summer, but they still won’t be letting either go easily. An eye-watering fee of £95 million has been suggested for Gordon, who has ten goals and five assists in all competitions this season.

The 24-year-old is a left-winger by trade but can play on the right and up front when needed.

Despite his roots with Everton, Gordon and his family are Liverpool fans and the link between the two is a natural fit on that front.

Liverpool are looking for a long-term successor for Mohamed Salah, who looks increasingly likely to leave Anfield this summer. Meanwhile, they are still on the market for a replacement for Luis Diaz, who is in sensational form in his debut season with Bayern Munich.

The Colombian has 26 goal contributions in just 21 Bundesliga appearances so far this season. Diaz’s total across the board is 19 goals and 15 assists, which will only increase between now and the end of the season.
